Modern Motherhood: If you’re not going crazy, you’re not doing it right.

Sassy, sarcastic and far from sane, my experience as a modern mother is a blast of fresh air that blows away all outdated stigmas of mental illness.

At some point on your path as a parent, you have an untold story of heartache, tears and bitter disappointment. From bump to birth, baby and beyond, you are riding a turbulent rollercoaster of emotions.

Believe it or not, we all struggle to some degree with our mental and emotional health. Hidden behind the filters, façades and flawless images in our perfectionist culture, we still feel the feels: shame, sadness, anxiety, fear, anger and guilt.

But don’t despair. I feel you. I’ve been there too.

Personally, I got a severe case of the crazies throughout pregnancy and well into the postnatal months. Diagnosed with depression and anxiety, it came as no surprise: motherhood hit me like a steam train. The days filled with multi-tasking, milk-shake making, bum-wiping, baby-burping, hospital-hopping and other parenting KPI’s just became all too much.

So, I went batshit crazy.

Allow me to share how I transformed from a girl who seemingly had it ‘all together’ into a hot mess mama. Read my journey from darkness into light as a mother suffering from a host of mental disorders whilst raising a child with special needs. Get an insight into the pressure cooker that is parenting in the 21st century – no holding back, no BS guaranteed.

You will be inspired by my story of hope and healing, as I bounce my way around the mental health matrix. You’ll feel encouraged by my antidote to the silence and superficiality of pretending to be normal. Believe me, crazy is a spectrum and we all sit somewhere on it!

Sassy, sarcastic and far from sane, my experience as a modern mother is a blast of fresh air that blows away all outdated stigmas of mental illness.

Buckle up for the ride.

You’ll laugh, cry and maybe wet your pants a little bit.
